The problem
Payslips and ID copies sent by email stay in strangers' mailboxes for years. With a link, your documents stay on your Mac, you see who asks to open them, and the link has an end date.
Why it works
- You decide who gets in
- With Ask me, you see each request and approve it yourself. A forwarded link doesn't open itself to strangers.
- The link ends
- After seven days the link stops working, so your documents aren't sitting open indefinitely.
- Your originals stay put
- Payslips and ID stay on your Mac. You don't hand a stranger's mail server another copy to keep.
How to set it up
Put your documents in a folder and choose Share with ordner.link.
Keep only View ticked, keep Who can open it on Ask me, add a password and set Link expires to In 7 days.
Send the link and tell the landlord the password separately. You get a notification for each request.
What to keep in mind
Anything a landlord downloads stays with them, so only share what they need. Names typed by visitors aren't verified, which is why the password matters. Your Mac must be awake and online when they open the link.
Questions
What happens after seven days?
The link stops working and connected visitors are sent away. Files they already downloaded remain on their devices.
Does the landlord need an app?
